Ashton-in-Makerfield and District U3A started life on 1st May 2009 at the YMCA in Hilton Street, Ashton, after a highly successful launch the previous week which 120 people attended.

Two months later we were officially accepted as members of the U3A movement and since then we have gone from strength to strength.

From the 1st June 2016 we moved our meetings to Captain’s Lane Community Centre and now have 245 full members.

Our meetings take place on the first Friday of each month at Captain’s Lane from 1.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. when we have a guest speaker. Interest group leaders in which arranged trips such as Theatre, Days Out etc have stands off the main room where members can enquire about joining a group or find out what a group does. Group notice boards are on display in the main room and Group Leaders are available for further information.

We also have a coffee afternoon on the third Friday of each month for all our members.
